Charrette 2014

Date: October 2014

Place: School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape, Newcastle University

Title: Un-wasting opportunities

Description: 4 day workshop with 50 students (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year)

This Charrette responds to the theme “Seeing things differently” under 2 complementary points of view. By looking at public spaces and situations as places to host new fantasies and by extending the life of unwanted materials which have been through away or are waiting to be recycled. The idea is to see waste as an opportunity.

It ́s not about designing a new public space but to imagine how the public realm could be improved and try new possibilities. In groups of 3 or 4, students will identify a place they would like to use in a different way and design a small intervention to test their idea. The proposal could be as realistic or as crazy as they desire as a transformation takes place as soon as one admits its possibility.
